The Blast Furnace complex in Ruda Śląska is both a laboratory for transforming the anthropogenic landscape and a catalyst for the social revival of Nowy Bytom. As the post-industrial economy shifts toward services, it leaves behind structures that become alienated, romanticized ruins—scenery for fascination and leisure. Yet these deserted sites quickly sprout new life, with invasive and pioneer species reclaiming contaminated ground.

Our proposal opens the area as a public garden, supporting natural ecological succession while allowing people to explore the evolving site. The furnace itself, made entirely of steel and long without maintenance, continues to corrode, embodying a paradox: each intervention to ensure safety and tourism erodes its authentic substance. We embrace this never-ending process of conservation, struggle against entropy, and transformation as a unique attraction—a building-machine in constant motion, a dynamic landmark on the city’s skyline.
