This article reviews the 18th Venice Architecture Biennale, curated by Lesley Lokko, which aimed to present Africa as a "laboratory for the future." Although this vision was not fully realized, the exhibition is praised for its coherence and thoughtful execution. The Biennale highlights the work of African diasporas, predominantly from cities in the global North, and addresses the challenges of representation and collaboration with African architects. The theme of decolonization is central, with exhibitions focusing on indigenous peoples, territorial struggles, and the ethical dimensions of architecture.

The article also discusses the absence of Eastern European architects and explores the relationship between architecture, politics, and history. Through various projects, the Biennale questions the role of architects and emphasizes the importance of imagining a positive, constructive future, despite the complexities and contradictions of contemporary challenges.
